Flotation 2013

The 6th International Flotation Symposium (Flotation ’13), organised by MEI in consultation with Prof. Dee Bradshaw and Prof. Jean-Paul (J-P) Franzidis, is on track to be the biggest event in the series (Fig.). With 5 months still to go before the start of the event in Cape Town, the exhibition has already sold out, with the 18 available booths being taken up by companies including FLSmidth, Outotec, Cytec, and Tenova Delkor. There has also been a great deal of interest shown in sponsoring this year’s event, with a total of 16 sponsors so far.

Flotation ’13 features two discrete symposia

On November 18-19 the conference is about Flotation Fundamentals: Physics and Chemistry. Although now over a hundred years old, the fundamental aspects of flotation are still being intensively researched and new machines developed. This two day symposium will focus on

• Fundamental reagent and flotation chemistry

• Bubbles, froths, bubble-particle interactions

• Flotation cell hydrodynamics, kinetics and scale-up

The keynote lecture “Flotation research – does advancement require a paradigm shift?” will be given by Prof. Kari Heiskanen, of Aalto University, Finland.

On November 20-21 Flotation Applications and Plant Practice is focussed and will include sessions on

• Plant Operations, particularly related to new technology, and process mineralogy problems

• Flotation Circuits, and their modelling, simulation, control and optimisation

• Flotation machine developments

• Metallic, non-metallic and coal flotation

• Environmental considerations

The keynote lecture “True Value Added in Flotation” will be given by Dr. Dariusz Lelinski, Global Flotation Technology Manager, FLSmidth, Salt Lake City.

Final call for papers until end of July

Those wishing to present a paper will find the details at //www.min-eng.com/flotation13" target="_blank" >www.min-eng.com/flotation13:www.min-eng.com/flotation13/ respectively are asked to send an email to Dr. Barry Wills, . Abstracts should be submitted by the end of June 2013. Flotation ’13 is sponsored by FLSmidth, Magotteaux, Aminpro Chile, SNF Flomin, Axis House, Cheminova, Outotec, Senmin, Keramos, Cytec, Clariant and Delkor. Media sponsors are International Mining, AT International, Procemin 2013 and Mining Prospectus.
