CEMEX takes over gravel works in Willich

As of 01.01.2011 the Willich-Hardt facility has been taken over by CEMEX Kies & Splitt GmbH. The gravel works near Düsseldorf produces Rhine sands and Rhine gravel in different grain sizes (Fig.). The minerals are extracted underwater with a floating grab dredger and conveyed to the processing operation on belt conveyors. The usable reserves at the deposit assure continued production at the site, which has already gone on for over 15 years. The CEMEX subsidiary KSV Kies und Splitt GmbH Rhein-Ruhr will handle product sales.

“Assuring a future supply of raw materials is becoming increasingly problematic today. And especially in North Rhine Westphalia the development of new sites will become more difficult in the future. So the more delighted we are that we have now been able to acquire another site,” explains Frank Kessler, Regional Manager for NRW at CEMEX Kies & Splitt GmbH. “The gravel works at Willich-Hardt is strategically well positioned for supplying a string of ready-mix concrete works in the CEMEX Group and, thanks to the proximity to our gravel works at Kaarst, Kleinenbroich, Vorst and Stenden, valuable synergies result for our customers.”
