Asphalt production in Sweden at the highest level

I‌n a quarry with connected asphalt mixing plant, the Swedish operating company Asfaltbolaget Sverige AB uses highly modern technology in combination with a perfected process chain to increase quality and efficiency: The tracked mobile crushing and screening plants from KLEEMANN will be operated here in the quarry in the future electrically and produce first-class quality basic materials. KLEEMANN offers the option for electrical operation of the PRO line plants ex works. A BENNINGHOVEN asphalt mixing plant of type TBA 3000, operated with biodiesel, then uses most of the minerals extracted to produce asphalt of different recipes and the highest quality directly on site. The innovative energy sources in conjunction with the extremely short transport routes guarantee a superior level of efficiency.

Mobile efficiency: Processing of rock and stone with KLEEMANN plants from the PRO line

After Asfaltbolaget Sverige AB put a BENNINGHOVEN asphalt mixing plant of type TBA 3000 into operation at the site in Furuby around two years ago, the construction company is now also using mobile crushing and screening plants from KLEEMANN. To be more precise, this is a jaw and cone crushing plant from the KLEEMANN PRO line and screening plants of types MS 15 Z and two MS 953 EVOs. The plants work in different constellations in linked operation as a plant train. Depending on the required aggregate, an optimum final product in precisely classified stone fractions is therefore always guaranteed.

The MOBICAT MC 120 Z PRO is impressive in natural stone applications with an output of up to 650 t/h. The powerful jaw crusher with a feed opening of 1200 x 800 mm is equipped with an extra long articulated crusher jaw. To guarantee the best possible material flow, the Continuous Feed System (CFS) adjusts the conveying speed to the fill and load level of the crusher. In case of material congestion, on most jaw crushing plants the crushing chamber has to be tediously emptied by the operator. Not with the MC 120 Z PRO. The optional crusher unblocking system remedies this situation. If there is material bridging in the jaw crusher, the crusher can be reversed with the help of the electric crusher drive and the blockage can thus be cleared within a short time.

A further factor related to the decision was the subject of energy efficiency in general and electrification in particular. The crushing plants in the PRO line are equipped with efficient, powerful diesel-electric drives. They do not drive the crusher unit and the conveyor belts of the MC 120 Z PRO and MCO 11 PRO hydraulically, but rather electrically and guarantee environmentally friendly and low-consumption operation. The KLEEMANN crushing plants can also be operated with high-voltage current – just as the screening plants and thus all plants in the train. “This gives us flexibility and makes local emission-free operation possible”, explains Production Manager Magnusson. After all, the possibility of an external power supply is an even more cost-effective and environmentally sound solution. In this manner, the plants can be operated purely electrically without the use of diesel – which lowers energy costs and exhaust emissions.

The mobile cone crusher MOBICONE MCO 11 PRO is the perfect plant for applications from the second crushing stage onwards and in combination with the jaw crushing plant MOBICAT MC 120 Z PRO. Both representatives of the PRO line are tuned to one another with regard to size and capacity. The MCO 11 PRO impresses with a maximum feed capacity of 470 t/h. Furthermore, the mobile plant offers the best possible linkage options with other KLEEMANN crushing and screening plants. With its fully automatic gap setting through the CFS system, an adaptation to the aggregates can be carried out in no time. The complete plant train can also be operated safely and efficiently by a single machine operator. Also a part of the PRO line, this crusher has an uncompromisingly robust design and is suitable for continuous operation in a quarry. The practicable innovations also contribute to this. Spray systems at different transfer points and LED illumination are already included in the basic configuration of MCO 11 PRO and MC 120 Z PRO. Optionally available Premium lighting provides even better illumination of all important operating positions.

After the KLEEMANN plant train has crushed and processed the mineral, wheel loaders convey it a few metres to the asphalt mixing plant. More precisely, they convey it into the cold feeders of a BENNINGHOVEN transportable asphalt mixing plant of type TBA 3000. From these cold feeders, depending on the asphalt recipe the plant draws off the required stone automatically and conveys it into its dry drum, where it is heated and thus prepared for the asphalt production.

Test run for the first EVO JET multi-fuel burner for biodiesel in the world

A special feature of the firing technology in the plant in Furuby is the EVO JET multi-fuel burner from BENNINGHOVEN. This prototype is in the trial phase and can, for the first time, not only use heating oil but also biodiesel for heat generation. As the biodiesel is relatively viscous, it is heated in advance to processing temperature and conveyed over heated and insulated pipelines. The possibility of switching over the fuels at the press of a button offers Asfaltbolaget high flexibility. The biodiesel is obtained from timber and thus represents a regenerative energy source that is even state-supported and promoted in Sweden.

By placing its faith in this energy source, Asfaltbolaget demonstrates its forward-looking approach and willingness to improve. “We want to go forward. The innovative technologies of the WIRTGEN GROUP make an important contribution to this. They help us to work efficiently and produce a high quality. This biodiesel also gives us a great opportunity to make our operation even cleaner”, explains Production Manager Patrik Magnusson.
