As early as the 1960s, an increased awareness of environmental protection developed, especially in the western industrial nations. Whereas at the beginning – against the background of the effects of unabated industrial growth on the environment – the focus was more on the protection of plants and animals. In the meantime the problem of global warming, and thus the cause and effect of climate change, has moved to the centre of discussions.

Sustainable raw material extraction is therefore also required in the mining industry to reduce the negative impact on the environment. In the extraction of iron ore, problems of water scarcity and risks with tailings dams, among others, are increasingly leading to the use of dry processing technologies. Dr Joachim Harder‘s article from p. 62 provides information on current trends. Another technical article from p. 54 shows which environmentally friendly strategies can be pursued in the conveying belt industry with regard to the life cycle and efficiency of products and manufacturing processes.

Wishing you further exciting insights into current topics in processing technology and inspiration for your own projects.
