New blood

Dear Readers

The specialist excursion is always a highlight of the “AT year” for us team of the AT. This year about 70 participants went to the Franken-Schotter GmbH & Co. KG in the valley of the river Altmühl. There we learnt a lot about extraction methods and aggregate production. We were allowed to stand next to a rather big operating crusher and, at the end of the day, we could taste the local beer (from p. 14). We are already looking forward to many interested students next year!

I also had the opportunity to see live the preparation of gravel and sand in the gravel works at Wimmis/Switzerland. During my visit the brand-new works with latest equipment was still being erected. The photo of this editorial shows how idyllic the surroundings of such a plant can be! In the meantime the plant has been commissioned (report from p. 46).

Wishing you informative reading
