VDMA meeting places

The trade association “Construction and building materials machinery and equipment” of VDMA (German Machinery and Plant Construction Association) is a professional and ideal supporter and co-organizer of the bauma. In particular, this is related to the topics ‘innovations, partner country and the recruitment of young generation’.

In addition to breathtaking exhibits, innovations - that’s what the bauma is all about. On 14 April those nominated and the winners of the bauma innovation award will be honoured at the Munich Residence. Those nominated have been known since the end of January. Anyone who wants to be informed about the impressive technology with texts and videos should have a look at the homepage www.bauma-innovationspreis.de.

Indonesia is the partner country of bauma 2013

The partner country is Indonesia. The goal is, to make more known the bauma as the worldwide largest innovation show of the branch in Indonesia and to start discussions with decision-makers. The focus of the bauma is mainly on contacts. Indonesia will be represented with a joint stand in the entrance area East and in the Indonesia Business Lounge. They are open to all exhibitors at the bauma to contact Indonesian visitors and decision-makers and to discuss business  possibilities. On 17 April an Indonesia Day with the opportunity of networking will take place in the bauma Forum, hall C2. Here the representatives from Indonesia will have the opportunity to present to the expert audience their country as a location for capital spending and as a partner for future projects.

The bauma Forum will particularly deal with mining topics. In addition to Indonesia, also Latin America, India, Mongolia and South Africa will be in discussion there during the first days of the fair. With a GDP of 840 billion US$ (2011) Indonesia is the third fastest growing economy in Asia and is one of the 20 largest national economies in the world. In 2011 the Indonesian economy grew by 6.5 %. For 2012 a growth of close to 7 % is expected. The construction industry contributes 10.2 % to the economic strength of the country and is the fifth most important sector of the country. Sales of construction machinery and equipment have strongly increased in the last few years: in 2007 about 7500 heavy earthmovers were sold, in 2011 sales already amounted to 20 000 units. The raw material sector also expects large capital spending in the medium-term.

Up to 2025 the country will implement the “Master plant for the Acceleration and Expansion of the Economic Development (MP3EI)”. A budget of about 400 billion US$ has been provided for it. About half of it will be used for infrastructure projects. Altogether the government has allocated 21 priority projects with a value of 33.4 billion US$, amongst other things, toll roads, bridges and ports or waterworks. The need for building materials is also permanently increasing. The government assumes that in 2012 Indonesia has consumed about 48.4 million t of cement, 13.3 million t of steel and 1.3 million t of asphalt. The trend is upward.

The VDMA is co-initiator of the partner country concept that has been in existence since 2001. “We want to convince them to invest in the right technology and modern standards. The bauma is an excellent setting for this”, said Walter Hess from the Hess Group and special messenger of the German industry for the partner country concept. “Only here are the investors comprehensively informed about the current state of the art and what is possible today in the field of sustainable capital spending in the construction, building materials and mining industries”. This initiative is to promote particularly contacts between business leaders, company representatives, government authorities, associations as well as German and international counterparts in the construction, building materials and mining equipment industries. Indonesian ministries and associations officially support the concept. After various visits to Jakarta, the Indonesian Minister of Construction and his delegation visited the European Congress for Construction Machinery and Equipment in Berlin last year. In addition to other high-calibre guests, he is also expected to visit Munich.
