Permanent weight control for optimized bucket capacity

A new weighing system renders Cat Series M middleclass wheel loaders even more efficient when it comes to loading and transport, which require meticulous control and optimization of the bucket capacity. The weight of the bucket content will be recorded already during the filling process, without loading cycle interruption. In this way, the driver can carry out quick capacity corrections before he sets the machine back from the aggregate material. A clear display shows the current capacity data to avoid both overloading and underloading of the dump truck (Fig. 1). Moreover, the data will be recorded to enable the control of the workflow efficiency and, if required, to improve it. The advantages: shorter cycle times and higher productivity. The system, consistently integrated into the machine, has been designed as a mere check weigher and thus dispenses with calibratability.

The weigher is especially matched with the new machines of the M series and can be ordered as option. The purpose of the control signals of the lifting cylinder position sensors and the working hydraulics pressure sensors is the calculation of the capacity with an accuracy of plus/minus one percent. Information can be retrieved via the standard multifunction touchscreen monitor. The entries for material type, truck identification numbers and capacity set point can be carried out as easily as the storing of payload data.

This is how a typical loading cycle with weigher works: the driver of the wheel loader drives into the aggregate material. In the display, he can track the mass loaded onto the truck. Thus in the last loading cycle, the driver can reach and use the maximum capacity of the truck. The compatible Cat bucket filling automatic, AutoDig, which automates constantly recurring work steps during backloading operations, can be utilized together with the Cat weighing system. Result: the burden on the driver will be reduced and productivity will increase.

The driver can track the loading capacity of his machine directly in the cabin (Fig. 2). Via quick access, he will be directly informed about the values of the weighed capacity, the number of the loading cycles and the total turnover realized at the end of the working day. In combination with the Caterpillar fleet management, further important values - among others, capacities, productivity and fuel consumption - are constantly provided for retrieval. If required, detailed protocols allow the targeted influencing of material turnover, fleet and driver performance at any time to reach the predetermined production and efficiency goals.
