New bucket wheel excavators for NLC in Neyveli/India

Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) commissioned two ultramodern bucket wheel excavators with a conveying capacity of up to 6800 m³/h for their Mine II in South India. The excavators 1400 L were delivered and erected by TAKRAF INDIA LTD., Chennai, in cooperation with the German TAKRAF GmbH. The bucket wheel excavators with a service weight of approximately 2600 t each are used in Mine II of NLC to remove overburden above the lignite deposits. The maximum working height of the machines amounts to 30 m.

For the first time in the history of NLC, two excavators of this size were commissioned simultaneously. The project could be finished five months ahead of the tight schedule (Fig.). The new bucket wheel excavators were put into operation at the area of Mine II on 5 February 2015.
