From bulk solids to silo – characterizing and storing powders and bulk solids

In response to continued demand, the university-held two-day “From bulk solids to silo“ will be held for the seventh time under the direction of Prof Dr. Dietmar Schulze in Braunschweig, Germany, from 13.-14.02.2012. The course provides an insight into the flow properties of powders and bulk, and on this basis explains the expedient design of silos, hoppers, etc. to avoid problems in operation, like, for example, flow disturbances, segregation or irregular flow. To avoid such problems, solutions must be devised with allowance for the properties of the bulk solids to be handled. Based on this situation, the course, which is aimed at engineers and technicians, chemists, physicists and pharmacists in design, development and operation as well as structural engineers (stress analysts), addresses issues that come up repeatedly in the development, production, handling and storage of powders and bulk solids. Alongside Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Schulze, Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Schwedes, Dipl.-Ing. Harald Heinrici and Dr.-Ing. Martin Kaldenhoff will talk on the following subjects: flow behaviour of bulk solids, determination of flow properties, problems in the storage of bulk solids, silo design, stresses in silo, discharge equipment and discharge aids, feeding/metering, design possibilities, case studies and the “new silo standard” DIN 1055 Part 6 (2005). Registrations will be accepted until 31.01.2012.
