Symposium on “Raw Material Efficiency and Raw Material Innovations”

The Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering/Particle Technology at the Georg-Simon-Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg is teaming up with the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) in Nuremberg to arrange a symposium on “Raw Material Efficiency and Raw Material Innovations” from 04.-05.02.2010.

Sustained handling of scarce natural resources is a key goal for the future. Lower availability and rising raw material prices call for significant innovations in raw materials and make the necessary processes an important economic factor. Another key goal must be to improve resource efficiency considerably and optimize the added value of the products. At the symposium measures for improving resource efficiency, branch- and material-dependent strategies and technologies are to be presented and discussed. Besides raw materials for iron and steel production and non-ferrous metals, another focus are industrial minerals, potash and rock salts and non-metallic minerals. Moreover in future waste-derived raw materials, environmental protection, new mineral processing technologies (Fig.) and assured raw material supply will also play an important role. The symposium will contribute to scientific-technical transfer on the topic of raw material efficiency and resource optimization and bring together professionals from industry, politics and society, from research and development and applications relative to the “raw materials”. It will provide a communication and discussion platform for partners from a wide range of raw material sectors. Technology trends as well as introduced technologies, possibilities for obtaining aid and support, and economic prospects for innovative products and processes will be presented and discussed.
