Preservation of resources and energy efficiency are priority issues at Rotamill, and these were naturally also in focus at Achema from 18.–22.06.2012 in Frankfurt/Germany. With the industrial fan on show, the company clearly demonstrated the challenges faced by fans in different industrial processes. Radial fans from Rotamill can be used to convey or extract air, vapours, gases, dust or low-gravity materials. In the development and design of the complex solutions, Rotamill has long focussed on energy efficiency. So according to Rotamill’s Managing Director, Frank Martin Bub, with intelligently driven fans, savings of up to 60 % can be realized – and in extreme cases, for example, energy-intensive applications, the saving may even reach up to 70 %. Whether for small- or large-scale conveying units, the medium-size company designs and develops fans in a capacity range from 350 m3/h to 1 250 000 m3/h. Impellers with a diameter of more than 3 m and drive ratings to over 3000 kW have been successfully in use for over 35 years (Fig. 1). The special challenge: all components which, for instance, come into contact with abrasive media, must be hard-faced with special wear-resistant carbide coating systems. Depending on the impeller load as well as temperature and blower parameters, the surfaces in contact with the media are rubberized, laminated or even engineered completely in high-quality stainless steel alloys.
Besides its extensive range of fan solutions, Rotamill also used Achema to present its environmental engineering, showcasing its complete waste air purification systems (Fig. 2), which not only enable companies to meet the pertinent environmental requirements far beyond statutory regulations, but also to substantially lower their energy costs in operation. All waste air purification systems from Rotamill are one-offs. Every plant is designed according to individual specifications, taking the entire production and air flow into consideration, so as to optimally exhaust potential efficiency. The plants are engineered such that the energy used for the process of the waste air purification is recovered as efficiently as possible in the form of heat (hot water, thermal oil or steam) and recirculated.
The companies Schirm Wärmetechnik GmbH and Hensel Pneumatische Fördertechnik GmbH, in which Rotamill holds a majority stake, also exhibited at the stand and presented their products. Schirm specializes in energy recovery systems, Hensel GmbH focuses on pneumatic conveying and sand processing equipment. All Rotamill plants are available on request as turn-key projects with the possibility of remote maintenance based on WEB services. Worldwide 24/365 service goes without saying.
