Management of MIRO again complete

The board of directors of the Federal Association of Mineral Resources (MIRO) has appointed Dr.-Ing. Olaf Enger (51) as the new General Manager (Fig. 1). The graduate mining engineer has more than 20 years of relevant professional experience. After finishing his studies and assistanceship at  the Clausthal Technical University, Dr. Enger first worked as a consultant in the directorate “Energy/Mining/Rock and Associated Products” at the Treuhandanstalt (fiduciary organisation) in Berlin. Then he worked with various gravel, sand and recycling companies in responsible positions. About four years ago he took over the management of Euroquarz GmbH and its subsidiaries. Since 2001 he is President of the Federal Monitoring Association for Gravel, Sand and Stone Chippings. He actively took part in influencing the development and alignment of the association landscape as a longstanding member of the board of the Building Material Association vero (formerly WVB) as well as in the then Federal Association of the German Gravel and Sand Industry (BKS) and today’s MIRO.

At the same time the board of directors of the federal association appointed the mining engineer Walter Nelles Vice General Manager of MIRO (Fig. 2). After studying mining at the Aachen Rhineland-Palatine Technical University (RWTH Aachen) he finished the preparatory training for a career in the higher grades of the civil service and, after a short employment at the Chief Mining Authority of the federal state of Brandenburg in April 1996, he moved to the Federal Association of the Natural Stone Industry (BVNI), the present MIRO, as assistant to the management and its research association. In 2001 he became the managing director of the research association and was appointed member of the management of the BVNI. Since May 2008,Walter Nelles is responsible as Managing Director of MIRO, amongst other things, for the fields labour safety, extraction and processing technology, technical environmental protection, mining law as well as research. Furthermore, he is in charge of the working group “Quartz”.
