From a traditional earth-working and civil engineering company with its own gravel pits, the KOOPS Group has evolved today to a specialist in recycling, disposal and the building materials trade. At its own extraction operation in Zarrentin, RTH J. Koops GmbH & Co. KG produces on its own extraction sites sand, gravel as well as numerous natural products. The company’s range includes washed and screened sands, gravel-sand/sand-gravel mixes, gravel substratum, crushed sands and chippings, armour stone, stones for dry stone walls and boulders.
In 2016, following exhaustive trials with different manufacturers, the North German natural building materials company opted for a mobile McCloskey S190 vibrating screening plant for processing sand and gravel. Here the focus was on the 0/2 mm sizes, for which a relatively large screening area was needed. It turned out that the S190 in particular is able to screen a wide range of materials in extremely difficult conditions.
The machine has a screening area of 6.10 x 1.50 m and has been equipped with an automatic start/stop system. While the wheel loader is busy with other jobs such as loading and stockpiling, the machine runs in no-load operation. Only when new material is loaded into the feed hopper does the machine automatically start up again to resume the screening process.
Mobile stockpiling belt for extra time
In a trial run with the McCloskey from Apex Fördertechnik, an hourly throughput rate of 350 t feed material was measured. Especially for the 0/2 mm size, as a special system a separate track-mounted Ezystak stockpiling belt with a length of 18 m and a dumping height of 8 m was also supplied. With this configuration, the machine can be fed with material over the entire working day without the need for separate stockpiling of the product. An interruption-free feed was specified by the customer and could be realized without any problem with this system.
The machine runs in two-shift operation, which, with an average throughput rate of 300 t/h, already leads to a considerable daily production rate (4800 t for the 0/2 mm size). In processing, a second grade of 2/30 mm is used for concrete production. Martin Hemmerling from Kieswerk Zarrentin was delighted during the trials because Apex Fördertechnik guarantees replacement part supply within just 24 hours as part of its aftersales service. The machine was tested over a longer period to make sure that the high throughput rate wasn’t just a flash in the pan. Final commissioning was completed in November 2016.
