For ten years, from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS have been proving themselves with high output torques from 15 to 250 kNm in heavy-duty applications like belt conveyor systems, mixers, mills, sorting drums or crushers for the mineral, construction materials and bulk material handling industries. The latest MAXXDRIVE® XT generation is characterised by an application-optimised two-stage right-angle gear unit that is especially suitable for conveyor belt systems and can be individually tailored to the particular application. Power and speed ranges that are designed for heavy-duty applications enable low speed ratios in combination with high powers. For example, this is required in bulk materials and mineral industries. Here, especially robust solutions are required that are resistant to dirt and reliable in rough operating conditions. Special sealing concepts which require as little maintenance as possible perfectly suit such applications. The space-saving optimised MAXXDRIVE® XT drive systems do not require external cooling.
Cooling concept for high power limits
In contrast to the previous designs, as standard the MAXXDRIVE® XT industrial gear units are equipped with a heavily ribbed UNICASE housing with an integrated axial fan. Due to the increased surface and the airflow covers, the cooling airflow is optimised and a very high thermal limiting power is achieved. In many cases, additional cooling is not required. Large roller bearings and centre distances increase the load capacity and service life of the components.

Perfectly matched gear units for tunnel project
In general, NORD produces gear units for horizontal and vertical conveyor systems in a one-piece housing design that tolerates extremely high transverse forces and torque loads. This also applies to very powerful industrial gear units up to 242,000 Nm which are required where extremely steep conveyor inclines and the material quantities to be transported are very high. A shaft axis offset allows for a very compact design and the use of larger roller bearings that ensure a longer bearing life.
Reliable NORD geared motors in UNICASE housings on conveyor belt systems especially adapted to the construction site conditions enable, for example, rapid tunnel excavation for the “LondonCrossrail” line under the centre of the British capital. Bevel geared motors with a smooth output shaft on both sides are used for the tunnel conveyor belts in London. The torque is transferred to the belt conveyor via an expansion coupling. This way, the number of versions can be reduced and the conveyor belt systems can be variably adjusted to new locations.
Economical modular system
All NORD drive solutions are planned for individual customers according to the modular principle. With the matched modular system, attractive solutions can also be provided for price-sensitive industries. This is based on a comprehensive range of frequency inverters, motors and gear units, as well as coupling and braking systems – each with a wide variety of options and features.
