Basic breaker excels on boulder breaking

Amrut Quarry, a quarry operator from India’s Gujarat State, has selected a new Sandvik BA2424 Basic Line breaker to help increase productivity levels. Charged with secondary, post-blast boulder breaking, the breaker is spearheading an upgrade to a quarry that has 17.5 million t of reserves and a life expectancy of at least another 20 years. The 36+ ha Amrut Quarry is owned by Sri. Kamal Bhai. When the company decided to increase production levels at the site, the owner was seeking a tough, durable breaker that could break boulders reliably for up to 8 h/d. The Sandvik Basic Line breaker proved to be the ideal solution to the company’s needs. Simple in design, Basic Line breakers ­utilise fewer working parts for reduced maintenance and lower owning and operating costs. Although simple, the Basic range still benefits from proven Sandvik technology and the use of genuine Sandvik parts to ensure optimum precision, ­superior levels of a long working life.

Mounted on an Hitachi EX200 hydraulic excavator, the 1670 kg Sandvik BA2424 is charged with reducing boulders of up to a metre in size down to the > 600 mm feed size demanded by the site’s crusher (Fig.). Equipped with a blunt tool for optimum breaking force in this demanding application, the BA2424 in consistently achieving output levels in excess of 500 t/d. To maintain this level of productivity, Amrut Quarry has put its faith in the aftersales service expertise of Mass Enterprises, who provides regular inspections and maintenance and the provision of genuine Sandvik spare parts.
