High performance with low space requirement

T‌he simply designed SBR 3 and SBR 4 construction material recycling screens from EAG Einfach Aufbereiten GmbH process a wide variety of construction materials – more and more also in Switzerland. This year, the BHS Bau- und Handelsgruppe from Dresden and its subsidiary celebrate their 10th anniversary as a manufacturer of screening machines. The story began with the reduction of crushing costs in the group’s own nine asphalt mixing plants. Today, SBR 3 and SBR 4 are established solutions for processing companies of all kinds.

Robert König AG from Kriessern, on the border with Austria and Liechtenstein, has been using an SBR 4 in its gravel and recycling plant in Rüthi since May of this year. Plant manager Rolf Lüchinger reports that the SBR 4 construction material recycling screen convinced him right away as a handy and space-saving alternative to the usual mobile industry solutions with crawler tracks and several conveyor belts. “We don’t have much space in our long plant. Any space that the machine technology needs, we lack in storage capacity. Therefore, the functional design is ideal. Moreover, the electric operation and the control via sensor automation are made for us. Usually, there is only one person in the plant, so we can’t screen continuously because other tasks, such as loading for customers, have to be done,” says Lüchinger.

But why all the pre-screening effort?

The demolition material, which mainly comes from the company’s own road and path construction sites, was not prescreened before. However, this created increased wear at the crusher and did not produce the desired grading curve in the RC product. The reason for this is the high proportion of fines in the starting material. With different screen sizes, it is now possible to produce a pre-screening with a defined particle size, e.g. 0 – 63 mm which can be used as a substructure or marketed. Finer meshes are also used to process pipeline gravel and humus. According to the manufacturer, changing the screen deck, which is after all almost 10 m² in size, takes less than an hour with two people.

With a Komatsu WA 480 with 5.5 m³ bucket volume, a large wheel loader is available for material handling. This represents the upper limit in interaction with the SBR 4 and has proven to be practical. By means of the machine feet, with a simple bolt-and-pin system, the height and inclination of the screening plant are adjusted. Daniel Dietsche, co-owner of the sister company Dietsche Straßenbau AG, is enthusiastic about the design of the screening machine: “I was convinced that it can cope with such a large wheel loader and coarse feed material, and that it is uncomplicated to adjust to different screening materials.”

For smaller processing sites, depots and especially construction site applications in road construction, civil engineering and landscaping, the manufacturer from Dresden offers the smaller SBR 3 construction material recycling screen. Designed for wheel loaders with a bucket capacity of approx. 1 m³, with a transport width of 2.4 m and a total weight of 2.3 t, this is more manageable and an alternative to screen buckets and bucket separators.
