New Ways in Soil Stabilization

In 2005 Backers Maschinenbau GmbH developed its 3-mtbc lime mixing unit for the stabilization of soils with lime, cement or other aggregates in road construction and civil engineering projects (Fig.). With this flexible and efficient system, it is possible to screen or stabilize soils or even both. Thanks to the wheel-track mobile design, the machine can be moved off-road on a track or transported on a lorry without the need for any special permission.

The main applications for this machine are:
•    Soil recycling: with the addition of binding agents, useful filling materials can be instantly produced in a closed system.
•    Homogenization: creation of a new building material at the construction site by the mixing of different components in road construction.
•    Immobilization: contaminated soils and building materials require the precise dosing of binding agents to enable recycling or proper disposal.
•    Soil stabilization: with the addition of lime, the soils can be qualitatively improved and stabilized.

The company Parcoplan, for example, produces stabilized soil using the Starscreen 3-mtbc. Adding another mix (Parcoplex®), a liquid soil is produced suitable as self-compacting building material that can be used for earthwork and civil engineering. Recycling of the excavated material and its re-use as liquid soil saves costs since neither transport nor a landfill will be needed. The portion of the continuously added aggregates for the Starscreen 3-mtbc varies between 2% and 10%.
