New electrified screening technology

In 2026, Swedish company Maskin Mekano fully enters the German market with electrically driven screening and crushing solutions designed for recycling, mineral processing, and aggregates applications. The systems address increasing German requirements for energy efficiency, low emissions, and reliable operation in urban and environmentally sensitive environments.

Founded in 1956, Maskin Mekano is a Swedish family-owned company with 70 years of experience in developing and manufacturing crushing and screening plants. The machines are built in Sweden and known for Scandinavian quality, durability, and innovation.

Electrification for modern recycling operations

The screening solutions are based on a fully electric drive concept, enabling energy consumption reductions of up to 70 % compared to conventional diesel-driven screening equipment, depending on application and operating conditions.

Operation in 100 % electric mode results in minimal CO₂ emissions, low noise levels, and predictable energy usage. These characteristics are particularly relevant for recycling plants, urban demolition projects, as well as traditional quarries, where emissions, noise, and operating costs are critical factors.

Reliable separation of challenging material

At the core of the system is the unique STE screen, developed for stable and efficient separation of difficult materials. The STE screen uses a controlled but aggressive screening motion optimized to reduce clogging and maintain separation efficiency even with moist material and very fine fractions.

The STE screen delivers clean and well-defined fractions, supporting efficient downstream processing and higher material recovery rates. Typical fractions of a three-deck screen include 0 – 2 mm, 2 – 4 mm, 4 – 8 mm, and 8 – 11 mm. By reducing off-spec material and reprocessing, the system contributes to higher recycling efficiency and increased economic value of recovered materials. Combined with the Vibroblock system, another Maskin Mekano innovation, the STE screen maintains predictable and vibration free operation proven in Nordic conditions.

The innovative mobility concept enables fast relocation between sites. Maskin Mekano offers a wide standard range of equipment as well as customised plants and solutions.

Making a real difference in screening fines

MIS Recycling in Denmark invested in a screening station SH 1503 from Maskin Mekano, and they are more than satisfied. “This equipment can sort in a way we’ve never seen before,” says owner Martin Henriksen. “It’s truly unique, and the combination of a powerful screen motion and ball deck produces beautiful fractions down to 0 – 2 mm when needed.” Their new final screen allows for ultra-fine fractions, even in all types of weather, while consuming minimal energy.

“The screening plant has three decks and is fully electric. If there’s enough power on-site, you just plug it in,” explains Casper from CBS Wearparts, the Maskin Mekano dealer in Denmark, who advised and sold the unit to MIS Recycling. “The electric drive system can also run on a generator with very low diesel consumption compared to similar equipment- just 4.5 l of diesel per hour,” Casper adds. “This low consumption is essential and perfectly aligns with our green strategy at MIS Recycling,” concludes Martin, adding: “We’re also excited to now offer customers sorting fractions that were previously impossible.”

Making a real difference in sustainability

Stenlille Grusgrav, also in Denmark, deciced to push towards sustainability in accordance with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the first concrete steps was replacing energy-hungry machines. A dated diesel generator was swapped for a new one using half the fuel. That alone was a major improvement, but the biggest leap came from upgrading the screening plant. An old model was replaced with a diesel-electric Maskin Mekano plant. “Previously, we produced 40 t of finished material per hour using 20 l of diesel. The Maskin Mekano screener now produces 250 t/h on just 5 l. That’s a staggering 2400 % improvement – from 2 t/l of diesel to 50 t/l,” Christian beams. “That’s a win you can feel – both for the environment and for the wallet.”

Compact screening

Recycon Element produces eco-friendly concrete elements without compromising on strength or durability. Their products come in various types and sizes, including system blocks, commonly called “Lego blocks” used for shielding, dividing, and securing spaces.

All aggregates used in Recycon’s concrete are processed on-site in Fuglebjerg/Denmark, where materials are both crushed and sorted. The sorting is done using a Maskin Mekano ECO3 screener, which has the lowest energy consumption and CO₂ emissions on the market. “It’s a superb little plant that fits perfectly with our needs and environmental profile,” Jens Flade Rasmussen of Recycon says. “It has a powerful screen that ensures a clean sorting, even in the finest fractions.” Once recycled materials are crushed, they need to be cleaned and separated. The Maskin Mekano compact screener does just that – sorting ultra-fine fractions while consuming minimal energy.

Based on these references, Maskin Mekano now brings its electrified screening technology to the German market.
