Wireless network with improved connectivity and optimised cybersecurity

At the LogiMAT 2026, the steute business division Leantec will be presenting the latest version of its nexy wireless network, with new features including improved connectivity.

Behind this further development was the knowledge that many larger companies are optimising and automating their intralogistics processes using automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, and some also with autonomous mobile robots (AMR). The AGV assumes simple fetching and carrying tasks, for example bringing pallets or containers from the warehouse or consignment hubs to (manual or automated) assembly points.

The nexy wireless network is increasingly being used in such applications, assuming the task of an automated material requisition system (AMS). Wireless sensors detect e.g. free pallet parking slots or low fill levels in containers in the assembly area, or pallets full of empty containers needing to be fetched, or packaging material requiring disposal. Via the nexy Sensor Bridge they send a notification to the superordinate IT level (ERP, WMS, MES…), triggering replenishments which are then brought by AGV to the appropriate location.

The wireless sensor technology of the nexy platform also meets the requirement for non-inventory materials to be integrated in the information flow. Automation is then possible "down to the last metre", precisely the goal of many intralogistics optimisation projects.

This is why steute has now created new interfaces, for example for the integration of nexy in heterogeneous AGV/AMR fleets on the basis of VDA 5050. This permits connection to the SYNAOS platform. Interfaces to additional platforms, e.g. from Agilox, Hartwall, MHP and SYNAOS, likewise facilitate direct communication between AGV and nexy, so that the information generated by nexy can, for example, be displayed on the dashboard of the corresponding fleet manager. Seamless integration of the AMS in existing processes thus becomes possible, increasing the efficiency of intralogistics processes. The current nexy platform, which will be shown at the LogiMAT, additionally features an improved safety standard, resulting in part from the high demands of nexy users in medical device manufacturing and the pharmaceuticals industry. Their requirements include the logging of all material requisitions sent via nexy from the shop floor to SAP. This function has now been realised by steute, also giving users the possibility to feed manual orders into the system. Moreover, the latest nexy software includes additional cybersecurity measures making the wireless network fit for future requirements, such as the Cyber Resilience Act.

The core features of nexy include application flexibility, not only as an AMS. Alternatively, and even in parallel, the system can also be used for e.g. eKanban, dolly management, and for load carriers and packages at transfer points between stationary conveyors and AGV. The system therefore has multiple benefits for intralogistics optimisation. On the hardware side, numerous switching devices, sensors and application-specific end devices (e.g. to monitor boxes in eKanban racks or count dollies in collection areas for empties) are available, as well as stack lights and wireless hand-held controls. Also at this level, the wireless system is thus exceptionally flexible.
