Powerscreen sets the stage for next chapter of growth in Germany
22.05.2025Powerscreen®, one of the global manufacturers of mobile crushing, screening, and conveying equipment, is setting the stage for a deeper focus in Germany – a country that has long played a pivotal role in the brand’s European journey. As the global powerhouse prepares to invest more deeply in the region, Powerscreen is positioning itself for sustainable growth in what it believes is one of Europe’s most dynamic markets.

“Germany is more than just a market for Powerscreen; it has been a cornerstone of our story in Europe,” said Sean Loughran, Business Line Director of Powerscreen. “While we have a long, storied history that has led to an established presence, we believe there is much more potential to grow. German customers demand performance, reliability, and innovation, three qualities at the core of everything we do at Powerscreen.”
That history dates to 1987, when Powerscreen identified a need for its world-class crushing and screening equipment to meet the growing demands of the quarrying and recycling sectors in Germany. The first sale was the popular MK II screening plant – a mobile, compact, and cost-effective screening plant that incorporated ground-breaking technology at its time. “Many of the machines we sold in the late ’80s and early ’90s are still running today – not just as tools, but as proof of the engineering excellence and lasting customer relationships we’ve built over the years,” continued Loughran. “Their longevity speaks to more than durability; it reflects our commitment to reliability, precision, and the trust our customers place in us.”

Undoubtedly one of the most distinguished projects Powerscreen equipment have worked on in Germany is the substantial reconstruction programme following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Rather than transport the rubble and debris to landfill, Powerscreen equipment was often brought on site to recycle the material, to be repurposed as a road base for construction projects. At the time, it was estimated that over 100 Powerscreen machines were going into East Germany each year to deal with various recycling applications.
Since then, the comprehensive range of Powerscreen equipment has made an impact in the German market. “For screening applications, our scalping range consisting of our Warriors and Titans have been used by German customers to address the complex demands of the evolving German recycling industry. They are popular due to their versatility, as they are also suitable for the traditional quarry and hard rock applications,” explains Loughran. “In regard to crushing applications, our jaw crushers, which are our Premiertrack models, our impactors, which are our Trackpactors, and cones, which consist of our Maxtrak models have been admired for their ability in tough applications.”

In more recent years, Powerscreen hybrid equipment has gained traction in Germany, due to the need for ‘cleaner’ mobile crushing and screening equipment. Germany is known globally for being a leader in environmental legislation, which Loughran explained has presented challenges, yet opportunities for Powerscreen and their German customers. “The strict legislative landscape in Germany is the result of a gradual build-up of environmental regulations, which have evolved over time. We have seen a drive towards a more comprehensive approach to managing materials and environmental impact, which has coincided with the enforcement of stringent standards. Our German customers now need to be thinking about noise and dust emissions, waste management, detailed environmental impact assessments to mitigate potential harm to their surroundings and local communities. This ties into Powerscreen’s own decarbonisation efforts, and this is an area we are keen to grow with our German customer base.”
Powerscreen has responded to the industry’s decarbonisation challenge by providing innovative solutions that work towards reducing environmental impact and greater sustainability. “The Powerscreen mobile concept has always contributed towards decreasing the carbon footprint per tonne of material produced by reducing unnecessary material handling such as hauling and loading, as well as the ability to recycle and reuse material at point of use,” explained Loughran.

“Our more recent environmental focus has been on fuel efficiency. We now use direct drive systems for our crushing range, which are proven to be 13 to 18 % more fuel efficient when compared with hydrostatic, resulting in significantly less carbon emissions. We have also improved engine capabilities and drive-line design for our screening range, which have meant cleaner engines with less emissions, but also less fuel usage and therefore less carbon reduced.”
“Finally, we're seeing growing traction for our Powerscreen Hybrid range in Germany, which now includes more fully electric crushers and screeners as well as models powered by innovative combinations of diesel and electricity. Customers using hybrid units powered off the grid have been able to reduce onsite carbon emissions by approximately 57% per tonne of material produced.”
Leading the charge into even more sustainability in the sector, Powerscreen is collaborating with a net-zero technology company to deliver a fully decarbonised end-to-end demonstration of a Powerscreen crushing and screening operation, powered by green hydrogen and e-diesel, to be unveiled at a demonstration site later this year. “If successful, this project will provide full off-grid operation at a quarry site, demonstrating zero emission potential but with the ability to plug into a power-grid if available,” added Loughran.
With a storied history and an evolving product portfolio tailored to Germany’s needs, Powerscreen is renewing its strategic focus on the German market. “We are actively seeking to expand our distribution network, particular in states across North Germany, including Hessen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Anhalt, Saxony, Thuringia.”
Powerscreen plays a critical role in the success of its distribution network by providing comprehensive support across key areas such as sales and service training, parts, marketing, involvement in new product development, digital solutions, and Terex Financial Services to assist in the funding and acquisition of equipment. “This support for our dealers is essential for ensuring customer satisfaction and respect of the Powerscreen brand, driving long-term loyalty and mutual success,” said Loughran.
Distributors who are interested in diversifying or strengthening their offerings with the Powerscreen brand are invited to attend a Powerscreen Pitch event in Frankfurt next month on 17th & 18th June.
“This is a rare opportunity to represent a long-standing, respected, global powerhouse in the crushing and screening industry. Potential dealers can meet with our team, hear about our latest offerings and strategic vision for the German market,” continued Loughran. “It will also enable our team to learn about potential distributors in these states and who would have strong alignment with the Powerscreen brand. With a sector ripe for expansion, we believe Germany can be one of our most significant markets over the next decade. We look forward to embracing this challenge alongside our German distributors, who will be critical to our success.”
