A genuine circular
economy – the key
to a sustainable
economy
Dear readers,
The year is drawing to a close, but there were still many interesting events, large and small, awaiting us. At the beginning of November, one of Europe‘s largest recycling trade fairs took place in Rimini/Italy. Some may wonder how recycling and mineral processing go together. The trade fair focused, among other things, on the recycling of construction waste, soil treatment, and sustainable urban development. Immediately afterwards, the editorial team traveled to the Saxon Raw Materials Day in Dresden. The main topic there was the availability of strategically relevant raw materials in individual industries, including the German defense industry. And at the end of November, we can look forward to ForumMIRO, which always discusses and represents the interests of the mineral raw materials industry directly with government representatives. The current issue of AT MINERAL PROCESSING will also be available to participants at the trade press stand at this event.
This issue also focuses heavily on the topics of recycling and waste prevention. Starting on page 48, a technical article by Flottweg deals with the topic of “Reducing sludge from ferries with decanter centrifuges”. This may seem exotic, but due to new legal regulations for the protection of the oceans, it is a must to reduce the volume of sludge produced, if only for economic reasons. Our report “Regional circular economy: From the city – in the city – for the city” also focuses on the recycling of mineral waste. The editorial team visited Nordmineral in Dresden and was able to experience impressive active recycling management. You can look forward to the article starting on page 38.
Wishing you a good and sustainable time
